Refresher vs. polish.
When I first started learning about how to care for hardwood, I really did my homework. My husband and I have an older home with hardwood floors that were in need of a new finish. I thought I would try a product that would tide us over until he could do the thorough job of a new polyurethane finish. I called the company to find out all the answers about these products because I read so many conflicting reviews about the refresher and the polish. Many people didn't really understand the difference between them or how to use them. This is what I found out: (1)The refresher is the product that was right for us. We have wood floors that had a polyurethane finish on them, and they hadn't been refinished for about 6 years. They were looking so dull, and I felt they were becoming damaged from the water and dirt being tracked in, but with the holidays upon us, I didn't want us to take on the more time consuming project of refinishing with polyurethane. I wanted something that could be done quickly and easily and would look nice and keep the floors from getting more damaged. The refresher is the product made specifically for floors that already have a polyurethane finish on them. The refresher is a polyurethane product itself and so it combines chemically with your finish and will NOT have to be stripped off when you go to refinish your floors. When you use the refresher, it will add a beautiful luster and it will only take minutes to apply and minutes to dry. (2) Not so with the polish. It is NOT meant for floors that you intend to eventually refinish with polyurethane. It is just as easy to use, it looks just as nice, and it will cover over your polyurethaned floors just fine, but once you use it, you CANNOT use the refresher over it (a polyurethane product) and you CANNOT refinish your floors with polyurethane after using the polish, without first stripping off the polish. Before I understood the difference I went ahead an used the polish on one section of my floors, my hallway. After that, I found out that I should have used the refresher since we intend to refinish our floors with polyurethane. But from this point on, I will have to always use the polish on my hallway and the refresher everywhere else, unless I want to go through the trouble of stripping off the polish and using the other product only. Since the polish did a great job putting a shine on the floors, I will just continue to use it on that one spot. (3) I specifically asked the company which is the more durable product, and they stated unequivocally that the refresher is the longer-lasting, more durable finish. (4) I asked if you have to use a damp pad to apply, or a dry one. The company said that they used to say use a damp one. Now they recommend using a dry one. The reason is because they figured some people would use a pad that is too wet and would affect the product results. My opinion is that you should definitely use a damp one, but ring it out so it is barely damp. Otherwise you will waste too much of the expensive product in the pad as it would soak so much more of it up. Anyway, the company recommends rinsing out your pad as you go if you are doing a large area. I found you don't need to rinse anything if your floors were very clean to start. It is very simple to use. Just squirt it on just as it says, generously, and then glide it all over the floor. You can do a dining room in 5 minutes. And it will be dry to walk on in socks in 20 minutes. Atleast that was my experience. I didn't have to block the kids from using any rooms really because it dried so fast. I also love their floor cleaners and their tile polish. The more coats you use (whether it be the tile polish or any others) the shinier your floors will turn out. They all worked so well. And they go a long way. And they don't strip off the polish that you apply to the floors.

It did just what I needed it to do
I have wanted to have my wood floors refinished for years, but I haven't had the resourced to do so. I was willing to accept even a little nicer than the worn out floors I had. I had been spot cleaning spills and occasional dog accidents, and then doing some general mopping. Clean was OK, but not really satisfying. The shine I wanted, however, was out of reach. Somehow, I ended up on the Bona page on Amazon. I previously had ordered a Bona product that didn't do hardly any better than what I was using. I went back to Amazon, and found the Bona Pro Series Hardwood Floor Refresher, and bought that. Not really expecting anything better, I applied it with a soft cloth on my hands and knees to a small strip of wood in my dining room (a place where I could remove it if I hated it). I was very surprised and pleased with the result. I looked at it from different angles in different lighting. The floor had a deep lustrous glow that I liked a great deal. Not shiny glossy (but then I didn't want that). Lustrous and pleasing. I applied it on my hands and knees, because I always do my kitchen floor on my hands and knees - something earthy and tactile, very satisfying about it. I could see up close what I was doing and covering, and I felt I had far more control of the product being applied to the wood. I had received one of these terrible applicators with the other Bona product (TOTAL waste of money - no control whatsoever with a pole that wobbled all over the place and pads I didn't think did any good), and I ended up on my hands and knees anyway. This product was easy to apply, easy to control during application, no unpleasant smell, good coverage, quick drying (faster than the bottle says), and made places in the floor worn by heavy traffic and dog shoe damage regain pleasing appearance. It's not as good as having the floors sanded, stained, and resealed, but for the price, I'm happy. 32 OZ. covered a lot of floor, even though I was generous. I was on a tight schedule, and although I could only do sections of a few square feet at a time, I got the job done in plenty of time. And each time I stopped, I sat back and appreciated the results. Can't beat that. I like this product a lot, and I'm going to order more. Good product, good value. I recommend it.

Very Happy
Very Happy with my end result. It was easy to apply, found some videos on YouTube. I touched up obvious nicks in the wood with a stain pen and then applied the refresher. It’s been a couple of weeks and looks like new. Anxious to see how long it lasts, but I will definitely be more confident with any future coats that may be needed.

Looks great but can get streaky/hazy, nozzle on bottle is messy
I just got a new condo and the floors were a bit blemished from the past owners. There were numerous scratches, scuffs, and minor imperfections. I decided to spend a weekend cleaning up the floors, which consisted of covering up scratches (Old English Scratch Cover), cleaning the floors (Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner), and then protecting the floors with this product. To preface this, I did not use the Bona mop like they suggest. Instead, I used a Swiffer with generic Target pads that I had laying around. It worked well enough in my opinion. I applied the product directly on the floor and spread it out with the grain of the wood, as directed on the back of the bottle. I did this for my entire floor and was presented with streaks and haze on parts. I discovered that the streaks were probably from using too little product. The best results were from the sections where I used more product than less. I had to apply two coats because I was unhappy with the streaking from the first coat. The streaks went away with the second coat and I was left with beautiful floors again. The finish is not shiny, but lustrous with a light finish, not shiny but not quite matte. Working time of the solution was a few minutes, dried within about 45 minutes. Try not to walk on it for a few hours, supposedly. It is ready for full traffic after a day or so. Cons: Word of warning: this product is thin and watery. When applied directly to the floor as directed, it naturally splashes a bit. This can be a pain when you splash on segments you already went over. If that segment is wet still, you'll be fine to go back over it with the mop. But if it's already starting to get tacky, you might need to reapply product and go back over the segment. The nozzle/cap drips also, which can be frustrating. I had to tape a paper towel to the lower half of the bottle to keep it from dripping onto the floors. Also, keep in mind that if your floor is wet and you step on it, you'll leave a footprint. Also, when you lift the mop up when you reach a wall, be aware that your mop may leave little bubbles. If these bubbles dry, your floor will have hazy/rough patches. I found that when I saw these bubbles, put the mop down on them and drag away from the wall, lifting as I get further away. In all, I am pretty happy with the results. They're not perfect but darn good. The nozzle on the bottle is messy and you need to use a fair amount of product to get good coverage, but if you are aware of the product's shortcomings, your results will be good.

Best in its class!
Like all Bona floorcare products that I've used, this one is top of its class. The only complaint that I have about the manufacturer is while they offer a wide variety of excellent products, they don't do a stellar job in clearly outlining in ONE place which products are incompatible with each and/or incompatible with flooring that's already been treated with a polish or sealant. This is crucial information because which Bona product you may, or should, use, depends upon what type of prior coating has been applied to your floor -whether that's tiling or hardwood flooring. If you make the wrong decision, you could incur a great expense if having to have your flooring re-sanded or stripped of a prior coating. The customer service is excellent otherwise. I'd recommend contacting Bona before using any of their products (besides their cleaners which are compatible with any prior coating) so that you are making an informed decision. In this regard, be aware that you should never use this product on your floor if you've previously applied a wax or polish (such as Bona Hardwood Floor Polish) without first removing the wax/polish. This requires alot of elbow grease and the purchase of Bona Polish Remover (available only from the bona.com website). Other than the above, this is undoubtedly the best product for restoring dull, lifeless, pitted, hardwood flooring to a lustrous shine. It's easy and and non-toxic to apply, dries quickly, leaves no residue and can be used over and over again with no build-up.

Wish I had discovered this product months ago.
Bona Refresher is a top of the line floor REFRESHER for urethane floors, not to be confused with Polyurethane finishes, When I purchased my home I was duped ( by the luster of the shine on the floors) into thinking the hardwood floors were finished professionally with Polyurethane finishing products. I quickly discovered after a few months of wear, how wrong I was. I was suckered into thinking the floors were finished correctly with Polyurethane finishes over original Polyurethane finishes. But the seller and previous owner had took cheap shortcuts to sell the house and had used Urethane products OVER Polyurethane products. A BIG NO, NO. But I bit the bullet and searched for a solution to my ever growing mess I unknowingly walked into. With a little experimenting and employing many of countless advise articles by Amazon reviewers I final nailed it down to where I control my floor shine instead of the other way around. (Living with dull floors). Truthfully I tried Mop and Glo and a few other water based products all to no avail. Finally accepting my problems realized I was wasting my time and money. Floor polishes of any brand or type just would not produce the luster of shine I was seeking. Then the Heavens opened presenting other options to attempt. I had accidently discovered Bona Floor REFRESHER. I read everything I could get my hands on and finally accepted I was on the right track to recovering my beautiful shiny floors. The label on the Bona bottle clearly states the product is designed to be used as a "URETHANE MAINTENANCE COATING" Those three words sold me immediately and off I went back on Amazon and ordered two of the $18.00, 32ox bottles. Since using this product I have discovered several other methods to restore my floors. I have learned I can spot apply the refresher in lieu of whole room applications. Works just as well especially on areas were recliners, kitchen table and chairs, and hallways. I also purchased from Amazon the Bona Cleaner which I use each time just prior to spot applications of the Refresher. Beautiful results and I love both BONA products.

Great product, wish it came in a larger size.
We used this on our hardwood flooring which gets a lot of foot traffic in the hopes that it would refresh it a bit without having to do a full re-finishing. We were pleasantly surprised at how nice it turned out. The product coats evenly, just make sure that you do small areas at a time. Otherwise the product will build up a bit. It helps being able to see the flooring at an angle to prevent what look like drip lines. Evenly spreading out small sections ended up working great for us. The finish was not quite as shiny as we thought it would be. We used a second coat and that helped with the shine. Be warned though it does not leave a glossy finish. The only negative I see is that the product seems to get used up quickly. This is only of the few products by this company that does not get sold in the larger size. I'm not removing a star because off that, but the company should consider the larger size for this. If you are like us and have large amounts of wooden floors, it took quite a bit to get them all. All in all, really good product that did what we thought it would. It provides added protection, makes the floor look refreshed and gives the wood a bit of pep back.

Mixed Feelings - Botched part of my floor
First, to be clear, this product is a permanent urethane topcoat, not your normal removable floor wax. I feel like Bona's "Floor Refresher" (this product) and the "Floor Polish" have the names reversed. This stuff is permanent and the floor must be really clean. Anyway, I used this on a new pre-finished 3/8" solid stranded bamboo floor installation, which is not exactly a recommended application by Bona. However, this product was explicitly listed as the only approved permanent topcoat by the flooring manufacturer (EcoTimber). The idea was to seal the joints between the boards from spills and pet accidents, which can really destroy bamboo flooring when the liquid gets trapped under the boards. So I set up some practice boards from scraps and the application worked well with three coats. Then, due to the layout of the room, I put down three coats on one half the room. I used an applicator from a hardware store ("Water Whiz") that was specifically recommended for water-based finishes for the first two coats. I felt like those coats went down really thin and all of the little air bubbles (like suds) created by that applicator had me worried, but they disappeared before the finish began to dry. On the third coat, I used a brand new Bona blue microfiber mop as recommended on the bottle. Bona warns against too thin of a coat leaving streak marks, so I thought I put it on heavier but still got very minor streaks. When I started the second half of the room a few days later, I stuck with the blue Bona microfiber mop with a new mop head. I put the first coat on as heavy as I thought I could to avoid streaks and in hopes that the liquid would self-level. TOTAL MISTAKE. Instead, the heavily applied film tended to bead up and dried very, very splotchy. I put down a second coat pretty heavily, hoping to hide the first coat, but it only helped a little. On the third coat, I switched back to the hardware store applicator and I got slightly better results. In short, I totally disagree with Bona about using their blue microfiber mop and about the thickness of at least the first coat. Granted, I was applying to a brand new floor and the cleanliness of the brand new prefinished boards may have contributed to some surface tension that caused the film to bead up like it did. I am not qualified to make a recommendation, but I can offer the observation that the first half of my floor that got a really thin "primer coat" of this product with the non-Bona applicator looks pretty darn good. To be honest, it went on so thin that the floor wasn't really any noticeably shinier even on the second coat. I think that the really thin coats served to create a good bond with the floor without being thick enough to splotch up. Again, without making a recommendation, it seems to have worked really well for me on the first half of the floor. I should emphasize that the floor looks really great from a distance and during daytime lighting. But at night with the recessed lights on, you can definitely see the splotches from standing height. Also, this stuff scratches much more easily than the factory applied prefinish. So unless you have a good reason to seal your floor board joints or you really want a high gloss floor (it looks great though!) or your floor is already damaged, maybe this isn't your best option.
