Whack up the volume and sing along
I'm really surprised, at not only the reception (I'm in a dodgy area and have never been able to get a DAB radio to pick up half the available signals before) but also the sound. From just the one speaker, and for the price I was expecting it to be very tinny and crackly sounding. I was wrong, It's clear, without any hint of tin.I've found one set of batteries will last me a whole weekend camping, and that's with it being on for 6 or 7 hours each day. Even in the middle of the New Forest I still got great reception. Very impressed for the price. The only reason it's not 5 stars, is because it does look and feel very cheap plasticky (to be expected at such a good price)

Colourful and stylish small DAB radio has nice display and great reception but could sound better
This is a cute and colourful little radio that I quite like, but it could sound better and presets are fiddly. It has a good display though and comes on instantly – unlike all my other DAB radios that take several seconds to start playing. Reception is excellent and battery life pretty good, for a DAB radio. The large, clear backlit display shows date, time, radio station, programme info etc. You select which, but annoyingly it doesn't always remember your selection if you switch stations and the scrolling info for the previous channel hangs around for 20 seconds or so. The display remains dimly lit when the backlight goes out, so uses a bit of battery all the time if you have batteries in.You get up to ten presets for both DAB and FM. But the radio has occasionally malfunctioned when I've switched to a different preset. You don't get long enough to select presets before the menu disappears, which makes it irritating to use at times. I've also found once or twice that it wants to start from scratch when you switch it on and do a full scan that you can't interrupt.Reception was great on both DAB and FM but I do live in a strong reception area. I can even use it with the aerial folded away. The neat mains adapter has a long 1.5m cable. Or you can use four AA batteries. When I first tried it with a fresh set of standard Duracells, they didn't last long. But a freshly charged set of Amazon's own-brand rechargeables have lasted very well – more than 15 hours continuous playback.Sound quality isn't great, but it's fine at moderate volume for spoken word stuff like Radio 4. Turn the volume up and it sounds strained, though it doesn't exactly distort at max volume, not that max is very loud. I don't think it's good for music. It sounds quite good through headphones. So it's not bad overall, but the relatively poor sound quality and fiddly station switching have to be offset against the cute looks, quick startup and very good reception.COMPARED TO GOODMANS PEBBLEI also bought a Goodmans Pebble DAB radio, which is up to a tenner cheaper than this Lava at the moment. The Goodmans doesn't look pretty, and is just a bit bigger all round. It also has a really tiny, recessed display on the top that you can't see too well and doesn't show the time. But it has a noticeably more rounded and 'airy' sound, is easier to set up and especially set presets, and there are three separate buttons to quickly access your three favourite stations – a real plus point. The Lava has better reception mind you, but on the whole the Goodmans seems to me to do a slightly better job than the Lava of being a simple, cheap radio.

Very good sound quality and I love how you can save ...
Very good sound quality and I love how you can save pre set channels. When you switch it off it displays the date and time. You can hold the power button for it to disappear, otherwise its a constant light on the display. This also updated the time automatically when the clocks went back. It's very compact too.

Good product for the low price.
There's a really bad buzz that can be immediately rectified by removing the back plastic which covers the battery area. This means the sound is improved 100%. For such a low price the product is exactly as expected, couldn't feasibly expect more. Looks nice and is light and portable. Feel they should sort out the buzz without having to remove part of the product!

Effective, versatile and robust.
A very good robust and compact DAB radio. Quite versatile in its portability. Would be 5 stars, but it seems a tiny bit heavy on batteries in portable mode. (Mind you I used the cheaper variety of Duracell, which was probably a factor.) On the whole I would recommend this as an effective and economic portable DAB radio.

Great!
Gorgeous aqua blue radio. I wanted a radio I could keep in the bedroom and this is ideal as it has a digital clock on it also. Not the best quality to feel but looks great.
