Great gardening scoop for smaller projects.
This is great scoop for general gardening use such as making your own soil mixtures as I do. (I use homemade compost, vermiculite, peat moss and decomposed granite sand plus recycled potting soil, added Epson salt, iron and powdered sulfur to get right pH for specific plants. ) It is perfect sized for mixing up to about 3-5 gallons of soil mixture and pots of up to about 1 to 1.5 gal capacity. For larger mixtures and large containers/pots a larger scoop is definitely better. Something like an large cast aluminum scoop -- example: Winco 12 oz Aluminum Scoop these come in several sizes 12 oz to 85 oz. the 58 and 85 oz ones are truly MASSIVE!!! I like the 24 oz for gardening use. This Fiskars scoop is well made and sturdy enough for all but very hard packed soil work. Best of all, being a composite material I never have to worry about it ever rusting! Yes, I do sometimes leave scoop in soil mix or forget and leave it out in work area area of garden & don't clean right away. Recommend highly for uses I have listed above.

Nice lightweight tool for a great price.
Awesome scoop. Will be perfect for gold panning! Seems plenty strong for being fiber composite, not sure what the other reviewers are planning on doing with this that makes them concerned for the strength of it. Will last a long time for sure. The sticker on the handle is the worst part for sure. I put a bike grip over the entire thing and forgot it was ever there.

Easy to soil transfer
This is a pretty essential tool, just a plastic scoop, but it works so well when you need to take soil from either a bag or another planter and put it into a new container. It simply works and is a great addition to any garden tools you might have.

a reliable tool for any gardener
The scoop is lightweight yet sturdy, making it easy to handle and durable enough for various gardening tasks. The wide, deep scoop is perfect for transferring soil and compost efficiently. While, the ergonomic design is not very comfortable to hold after long time use.

Easy to Transfer Expensive Soil Mix Without Spilling a Drop
They call it a "soil scoop," and it performs that function admirably, and more. No doubt a brilliant designer behind this seemingly simple utensil, and I suspect much testing went into perfecting this scoop. So refreshing to find something that works perfectly, versus the usual slightly flawed designs that break or don’t work quite as advertised. I paid $27 a bag ($30 if you count 10% state tax/tithe) for an expensive container potting soil mix with mycorrhiza and other beneficial ingredients, and got tired of seeing expensive soil mix spill on the ground every time I transferred a bit from the bag to a container. I stumbled across this scoop searching for something else (I forget what) in the gardening category on Amazon, and am glad I overcame my reluctance to pay what I initially thought was a high price (almost $10) for a mere scoop. I have used the soil scoop several times without spilling a drop of expensive potting mix. Then I thought to also use it as a transplanting scoop, dipping it into the potting soil to scoop up an alyssum plug I had placed under a pineapple sage plant. Sage is allelopathic, produces root chemicals that act like a herbicide, and this alyssum plug seemed stunted (compared to others thriving around scented geranium, spearmint and other herbs). BTW, sweet alyssum is a good companion plant used to attract syrphid flies eating aphids and other pests; and is even planted between rows of crops like lettuce by big commercial growers, which is why I am testing it in the same containers as other plants. To sum up, the Fiskars scoop performed flawlessly both as a soil scoop and transplanting scoop (for soft soil; I would not recommend for hard soil). The scoop now has a new home at the top of my potting soil bag; so I won't have to go searching for it. Highly recommended.

Birdseed
This dandy scoop fills a need for me that has nothing to do with gardening, although I can see that it would be great for filling small pots. I was interested by another reviewer's comment that the scoop was smaller than expected and I've had a devil of a time finding something to scoop bird seed into a particular tube feeder without scattering it all over the place so I decided to give it a try. This is perfect. It is no bigger around than a standard sized soup can although the scoop part is somewhat taller. Because of the rounded shape it holds a good amount of seed and deposits it into the tube of the feeder quite effectively. I need several scoops to fill the feeder, but the seed goes reliably into the feeder and not all over the ground. One of my feeders is constructed so that I can use a canning funnel for filling, and another is bigger around so a regular scoop works fine, but this one has defied efficient filling. Although I tried the bird store scoop that has a lever to open so the feed will funnel down the hollow handle into a narrow tube feeder, I found the larger sunflower seeds often created a log jam over the small opening and stopped the flow and even at best, the process was tedious and slow so I've been searching for a scoop that was smaller around than normal but had a decent capacity. This one really fills the bill. All my plant containers are large enough that a bigger scoop is more useful, but this would be good for smaller pots for say, kitchen herbs, as it's only about 3.5" across. I can also see it would be handy to scoop and fill my small dog's dish with kibble from its storage bucket, so I may purchase a second one for that purpose. The handle on this scoop, at 5.5" is long enough for even a large gloved hand to hold and maneuver easily, and a slight depression in just the right spot to use as a thumb pad helps with leverage. The whole thing is the same sturdy plastic and won't mind being left out in the weather, plus will rinse clean easily. Bottom line: This scoop's narrow mouth fills some unexpected needs really well, but if you want to fill large gardening containers you may want to look for something bigger.

Perfect for when I'm moving soil into my raised garden beds (aside from dumping bags of soil), it's useful when moving soil or compost around the raised garden beds. It's big and lightweight but sturdy.

Liviano, macizo, buen diseño. Lo requiero para escarbar en la arena e instalar un toldo, por lo que cumple perfectamente mi requerimiento. No es filoso, ni pesado, así que puede ir en la bolsa junto con lo demás.

This scoop works perfectly well for scooping soil or compost out of big bags. It's sturdy enough that a full scoop of wet soil doesn't strain it or anything and it feels solid to use. My only complaint is that the scoop is pretty deep and the way it's designed means that soil gets packed into the spaces near the handle. In order to clean it out properly, I have to spray my hose into the scoop to clean out the soil that gets packed in there. Minor annoyance, otherwise it's fine.
