Beach Party (1963) helped to usher in a new wave of teen exploitation films that were far more fun and frolicsome than the rock and roll and juvenile delinquent films that preceded it. Frankie rents a beach house for himself and Annette's Dolores. He is stunned to learn that she has gotten cold feet and allowed the whole gang to hang out there. So Frankie decides to "dig somebody else," and Delores takes up with Robert Cummings, an anthropologist studying the sex lives of teens. All ends happily, and chastely. Harvey Lembeck, whose credits include Billy Wilder's Stalag 17, introduced his recurring series role as bumbling biker Eric Von Zipper. Surf guitar god Dick Dale provides accompaniment. Vincent Price pops up as Big Daddy to say, "Bring me my pendulum, kiddies. I feel like swinging." Beach Blanket Bingo (1965) is the magnum Party opus as Frankie goes sky-diving, Bonehead (Jody McCrea) falls in love with a mermaid, Linda Evans sings, Paul Lynde is snide, Don Rickles insults, and Frankie and Annette sing their classic, "I Think, You Think." Bikini Beach (1964) takes a swipe at the upstart Beatles with Frankie in a dual role as British pop star Potato Bug. Muscle Beach Party (1964) was Stevie Wonder's first film, and Peter Lorre's last. How to Stuff a Wild Bikini (1965) marks the end of an era, with Frankie, off in the Naval Reserves, getting help from witch doctor Buster Keaton in keeping interloper Dwayne Hickman away from Annette. Annette's absence is keenly felt in Ski Party, but James Brown performs, "I Feel Good" and Lesley Gore sings her top-40 hit, "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows." Frankie and Annette were reunited at the racetrack in Fireball 500 (1966), but Fabian is a third wheel as a rival for Annette. Thunder Alley (1967) (from Richard Rush, director of the cult classic, The Stunt Man), is another car-racing vehicle that pairs Annette and Fabian, but by now the thrill is gone. Frankie and Annette are as indelible a screen couple and as inseparable in the public's imagination as Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers or Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. What is the secret to their enduring appeal? The last line of Back to the Beach (1987), an unsung gem unfortunately not included in this set, sums it up. Frankie and Annette walk together along the beach for the last time. Frankie turns to the camera and asks, "Are we the corniest couple in the world, or what?" --Donald Liebenson Review: I love these beach movies with great music. - I wanted to get a copy of these movies and I found this collection to get them all together. They are always fun to rewatch, humor and light-hearted romance. Review: A wondeful movie. - There is nothing to dislike. The movie is wonderful, the Blu-Ray is better than many other movies. fun set of those classic Annette & Frankie beach tuners
Travel back to a more innocent time, the early 1960's when "fun" meant meeting your friends on the beach for a wiener-roast and jiving to the latest hit 45' on your portable record player. Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello personified the image of the sunny, wholesome California beach-set in their series of BEACH PARTY films, cranked out in quick succession by American International Pictures between 1963-66. The original BEACH PARTY was an unexpected drive-in smash, starring teen heartthrobs Frankie and Annette as Frankie and Dolores, who head down to the coast for a summer of swingin' and surfin', only to have their romantic getaway spoiled by Frankie's loud-mouthed friends who have decided to tag along. When a stuffy, whiskered anthropologist (Bob Cummings) and his assistant Marianne (Dorothy Malone) decide to study the teens' partying habits, they end up with more than they bargained for when Professor Sutwell becomes a pawn in Dolores' game to get Frankie jealous and propose to her! The sequels are all mildly charming - the best of the bunch has always been the delightful BEACH BLANKET BINGO, which most fans single out as their favourite. Added to the winning Annette/Frankie musical mix is a pre-"Dynasty" Linda Evans as an airborne singing sensation called Sugar Kane, plus red-headed vixen Deborah Walley out to steal Frankie; and Marta Kristen playing a mermaid. Donna Loren belts out her classic "It Only Hurts When I Cry" as she roasts a charred wiener over the fireplace - that's symbolism for ya. The BEACH PARTY films also provided steady employment for some of the 'Golden Age' Hollywood stars when, shall we say, the offers of good acting roles were no longer forthcoming. Keep your eyes peeled for the likes of Boris Karloff, Mickey Rooney, and most frequently Buster Keaton (usually accompanied by curvy cutie Bobbi "Ya, Ya" Shaw as his Swedish assistant). Not officially part of the BEACH PARTY arc, but an attempt by AIP to get their stars into another franchise, the racecar-themed FIREBALL 500 and THUNDER ALLEY are notable in their attempts to inject a bit of realistic "grit" into Frankie Avalon; and Annette fans will appreciate her more mature screen personality. This boxset is recommended because it's the only way to purchase MUSCLE BEACH PARTY and SKI PARTY (MGM's original double feature DVD is now out-of-print and commanding ridiculously high prices). SKI PARTY is more of a showcase for Frankie Avalon and Dwayne Hickman, with Deborah Walley and Yvonne Craig ("Batgirl") as their girlfriends. Annette is reduced to a mere uncredited cameo appearance as a Sex Ed teacher. Each disc holds two movies (one on each side); extras are limited to the occasional trailer. It should be noted however that this box doesn't have the complete BEACH PARTY collection. "Pajama Party" (which is more of a starring vehicle for Annette who romances a martian played by her old Disney co-star Tommy Kirk, with Frankie in a small cameo role); and the later "Ghost in the Invisible Bikini" and "Sergeant Dead Head" sadly aren't included.

Beach Party Mania - Classic Annette and Frankie
Well here it is. All of the Beach Party feel good movies with Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon. These movies have great period Surf Rock with guest appearances from Dick Dale, Little Stevie Wonder and other 60s rock greats. And don't forget the great singing of Annette, Frankie and Donna Loren. The "Great Eric Von Zipper" and Don Rickles will have you laughing throughout. Some would say the plots are corny. I say it was just clean fun from a time of innocense that we should not forget. If you want to revisit the early 60s here is a great addition to your video library.

Old Fashioned Fun
I was an eager fan of these flicks when i was growing up in California in the 60's. They are completely hokey and dated, but still fun. No fowl language, no gratuitous violence and no sexual soft porn. They bring back memories of much happier times and the joys of a world where everyone wasn't in each other's back pockets all the time.

I had already seen some of these USA-teen-surfing movies before on the rare occasions they appear on UK television, and was hooked. They are corny, fun and all have a happy ending. Which is neat. Basically, they are a great observation of American youth/pop culture before we all became more cynical at the end of the sixties. I absolutely love these movies, they are all about fun, and have some great surfing/pop songs.

I remember my parents watching these movies on t.v when I was a kid, I just received them yesterday in the mail , DVDs were in excellent condition as described in the ad. I was happy watching theses old movies on my 144" projector screen, brought back memories of my childhood, can't wait to take theses movies outside and watch them in my backyard....

Formulaic light entertainment to the extent that there are running jokes through the series. Similar plots moved from one location to another. I bought the set for nostalgia and it satisfied that.

You get a real package here, many movies to see, good price, treat yourself, I did it for Annette, as We all need to remember her talents. Annette wanted to dance again, purchase this set as a tribute to a Walt Disney Beauty.
