This 18V 8Ah battery is just like the OEM—wait a minute, it is the OEM battery. As a woodworker and DIYer, I own a lot of Bosch cordless power tools. I’ve noticed that non-OEM batteries sometimes fit very tightly, requiring extra force to insert or remove. That’s not the case with OEM batteries—they slide in and out smoothly with virtually no effort. The footprint of this large 8Ah battery is the same as the 4Ah Bosch batteries, but it’s taller. The 8Ah battery measures about 2 3/4” tall compared to the 4Ah at 1 7/8”. That makes sense, since the higher capacity likely comes from an additional row of cells. The weight difference reflects this as well: 2 lb 3.3 oz for the 8Ah versus 1 lb 3.4 oz for the 4Ah. Beyond the extra power, the charger gives me the option to charge in three modes: high speed, normal, and eco. The internal fan kicks on in all three modes, and while the fan noise is noticeable, it’s not excessively loud. Since I have multiple batteries, I’ll probably stick to ECO mode most of the time to help extend battery life. Still, it’s great having the option of a faster charge when I need it—like when I don’t have spare batteries available. Overall, this is a well-built battery and charger. My original Bosch charger will definitely take a back seat to this one, though I’ll keep it around as a backup.

***FULL DISCLOSURE: Item was received for free through the Amazon Vine program in exchange for an unbiased review.*** This Bosch charger and battery kit feel a bit on the expensive side, but you're definitely getting quality. The charger is very beefy (borderline too big), and charges very very fast. I will say the active cooling and the beep-when-done makes the unit annoyingly loud vs most other brands' chargers. The battery itself is very well built, and feels like it could fall from a roof and still be totally fine. I don't like that it takes a decent amount of pressure to push the release button, but I suspect that'll loosen up over time; better that then have it barely grab out-of-the-box. Overall, not perfect and a bit pricey, but a pretty solid entry.

This battery has extreme amount of storage, about 144 Wh. It's very high quality and works right out of the box. It includes a charger, battery, and manual. The charger is big, heavy, and fast. The battery lasts as long as you'd expect for this size battery. The only downside I can think of is the price, as it's pretty expensive for a single battery. But it does come with the fast charger, and you're getting name brand, so it's definitely worth it if you're looking for the highest quality you can get. Look for a sale off of MSRP and it makes the value much higher.

I ordered this 18 volt starter kit to run my first Bosch brand cordless power tool. I have a 16 gauge, 2" crown stapler and needed both a battery and a charger. I have other brands of cordless and other Bosch brand corded tools. The battery is a large capacity 8 Amp Hour. The charger is a multi-level fast charger. The battery shipped at less that 20% charges based on the indicator lights on the charger. I timed charging the battery to 100% in less than an hour. The charger has settings for 50% charge and 80% charge that would put a quick charge on during a break on the job site. The quick charge function will save time, and will save the need to buy additional batteries. The charger monitors battery temperature and percentage charged. The battery and the charger are both heavy duty. The plastic appears to be the same type as other power tools, and appears to be relatively indestructible. The battery is a high quality item, with screwed together construction. With this battery running the 16 gauge crown stapler, I put on 4 sheets of OSB siding, continuous duty, and never used even 1 of the 5 indicator lights, about 20%. The fit of the battery into the power tool and into the charger is perfect, easy to insert, easy to intentionally remove using the red release button on the back. I needed this starter set, and I am glad I have it. The price point is about where other battery/charger combinations are for other brands, and I feel. it is a decent buy.

This is my review of Bosch GXS18V-30N18 18V Starter Kit with (1) CORE18V® 8 Ah High Power Battery and (1) 18V 16 Amp Battery Turbo Charger. I have many different cordless tools and thought I would try a different brand to see what is new out there. I am glad I did! This battery provides high capacity for those tools such as a circular saw or router that draw a lot of power. The charger is unique as well, at least compared to my main brand that starts with an “M” and is teal colored. The main feature is being able to select between 3 charging modes including Standard, Power Boost and Long Life. Standard (no Mode Light) is for normal charging. Power boost (Red Mode Light) quickly charges the battery to 50 percent so you can use it sooner if required. And the one I like is called the Long-Life Charge (green Mode light) which charges more slowly providing a longer lifespan for the battery. The battery using the long-life charge still charges quickly and since these batteries are so expensive I prefer to make them last. Having choices pertaining to how the battery charges is amazing and welcomed by someone who uses cordless tools each day. I am amazed at the advancements companies are making in the field of cordless tools. As I replace my ageing tools I will certainly look at Bosch. For the above reasons I will rate the charger and battery 5 stars as they offer good value and dependable power for demanding jobs.
