Alongside other accolades, BANKS 5 was awarded Gold at the 2020 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. The taste of BANKS 5 Island Rum is the result of carefully choosing and combining rums from 5 distinct origins, each bringing its unique style and character to the spirit blend. BANKS 5 is a rum that can take even the most elemental cocktails to new heights, becoming a favourite of many bartenders around the world. The blend begins with Jamaican rum, dominating the taste with unmistakable pot still aromas. Next comes Trinidad and Tobago, the back upon which BANKS is built. Guyana follows, with its tropical sea air adding a distinct sweetness. Barbados rum chimes in with its easy-drinking, smooth and creamy character. BANKS 5 is not only a Caribbean rum. Last – but certainly not least – is Batavia Arrack, bringing flavours of the East from Java in Indonesia. It provides a powerful flavour component, and only a little is needed. Like other rums, Batavia Arrack is made from molasses derived from sugar cane. However, being local to Indonesia, it’s aged in ‘Jati’ – or Teak, as sed to the ex-Bourbon barrels usually associated with rum. Batavia Arrack is vital to the BANKS blend – it’s a signature that ties it all together. In total, 20 different rums are used in the blend. They come from 8 distilleries, located in 5 countries - hence the "5" in the name. Some of them are barrel-aged rums, using ex-Bourbon American Oak casks and some are distilled in a copper pot and column stills. The rums also range in age – up to 5 years old. In the end, the blend is charcoal filtered, resulting in its clear colour. The BANKS 5 experience begins with the first scent sensations. The nose offers intense aromatics of fruit and spices, with hints of ripe green melon, , pink peppercorn and white chocolate. Master blender Arnaud de Traubac and his partners were thinking completely out of the box. They wanted to create amazing cocktails, and they wondered if that could be accomplished with a premium blended rum that combined great distinctive regional rum styles. The award-winning bartender Jim Meehan was hand-picked for the role of creating just such a rum. His understanding of flavours helped to define the attributes that deliver the perfect foundation for rum cocktails.
